Jason Doyle Psychotherapy & Counselling

You don't have to
explain yourself here.

Therapy for people living with HIV — informed, affirming, and genuinely human.

01

You're in the right place

A change in your HIV status changes things. Not just medically — but in how you see yourself, how you move through relationships, and what you allow yourself to hope for. Stigma has a way of getting inside, even when you know it shouldn't. And carrying something that most people around you don't fully understand can be quietly exhausting.

If any of that resonates, you're in the right place.

Who I am

10+ years HIV community involvement

I'm Jason — a psychotherapist based in Dublin, working online across Ireland and the UK. For over 10 years I've volunteered with HIV and sexual health organisations in Ireland, including clinical placement with HIV Ireland. My BSc dissertation examined self-acceptance among people living with HIV — it's not just a specialism, it's something I've been committed to long before I became a therapist.

I have a deep personal understanding of how significant a change in HIV status can be — and the complex emotional landscape that follows. I bring that awareness into every session. You won't need to spend time bringing me up to speed on what an undetectable viral load means, what navigating disclosure feels like, or why a routine check-up can still carry weight years on. That context is already with me — so whatever you want to bring, we can go straight to what matters most to you.

What we can work on together

Living with HIV can bring layers that are hard to untangle alone:

  • Stigma and internalised shame — the messages you've absorbed about what your status means
  • Disclosure — who to tell, when, how, and what to do when it goes wrong
  • Relationships and intimacy — trust, fear, U=U, and what sex and connection can look like now
  • Identity and self-acceptance — finding a relationship with yourself that isn't defined by a status
  • Anxiety and health — managing the ongoing psychological weight of monitoring, medication, and uncertainty
  • Grief — for the life you imagined before, for relationships changed by disclosure, for the version of yourself you're still getting to know

How I work

My approach is person-centred and integrative — which means I follow your lead. There's no agenda, no checklist, no assumption that I know what you need before you've told me. Some people come wanting to process a specific moment. Others want to work on something deeper and longer-term. Both are fine.

Sessions are 50 minutes, held online, and available Tuesday–Thursday and Saturdays. I work with a small number of clients to make sure each person gets the time and attention they deserve.

If something here has landed, I'd love to hear from you. The first step is a free 15-minute consultation — no pressure, no commitment, just a conversation to see if we're the right fit.
